WA Super Sedan Field Set For Big Title
By Jason Crowe
This years WA Sedan Car Federation State Super Sedan Championships, is one of the most wide open Titles, to be held for the first time at the Perth Motorplex, the host venue of last seasons National Title, this Friday and Saturday night.
The largest field to contest a State Title since 1995, this years field has many drivers who have legitimate claims.
The twenty seven strong field is headed by two times and current State Champion Marc Giancola, Super Sedan Series Champion Kemble Aylett, and Peter Lyall, an underated driver from Carnarvon, who has finished third in this event for the past two seasons.
For the first time in five years, the title will also feature an Interstate driver with Lucas Roberts of Victoria entering for the two night event. Roberts, a three times Victoria Champion, will drive Liam Burke’s spare car in the event.
Kalgoorlie is well represented in the title, with Rob Bawdon a recent winner in the Premium Drilling Super Sedan All Star Series, Ric Musarra and Dean Shore, all of whom have started strongly, this season.
Trevor Bale the 2006 runner up, who did not race last season, returns for this years event and could throw an unknown variable into the event, if he gets his car set up right on the highbanks of the Perth Motorplex.
The same too could be said of Bert Vosbergen who can never be discounted. The seven times State Champion, is looking to become the first driver in the States sedan history to win eight titles. The new Pantera though, is lacking laps, and this may count against Vosbergen in his quest of another crown.
Keith Higgs, the fourth driver in the field to have won a State Title, also has genuine claims to the event. The form of Higgs early on this season, has been both impressive and spectacular, and it would not surprise to see Higgs on the dias on Saturday night.
Troy Brook has finished in the top four in three of the last four title deciders, and has figured prominently this season already. This may be the year that Brook wins the V8 crown, eight years after his father Peter last won the crown.
Each driver will contest three heats on Friday evening over 10 laps, with the final round of heats to be contested on Saturday, 24 November. The 25 lap Final, promises to be one of the best State Championship deciders in a long time.
