Rob Bawdon of Kalgoorlie won the fourth round of the Premium Drilling Super Sedan All Star Series at the Collie Speedway, on Saturday night, which will be remembered for much more than his win. Of the fourteen original starters to the night, only five would finish the twenty lap Feature Race, with tempers reaching boiling point with two laps to go after Troy Brook and Kemble Aylett made contact in turn four. Brook head butted the concrete wall from the alledged contact, damaging the front end of the Monaro. He was able to restart the car, and then proceeded to try and restart the race. Other unsavoury incidents occurred after this, which lead to his disqualification. Meanwhile the race itself, was a race of attrition, with Marc Giancola leading until lap eighteen, when he could no longer safely control the car after the power steering failed in his last heat race, leaving Giancola to try and race with no power steering in the main event. Peter Lyall would suffer a puncture, as would Carnarvon counterpart Blake Jackson, while Micheal Nash would also not see the chequered flag. The main damage came in the way of Shane O'Hanlon who slammed into the safety fence, demolishing the front end of his Ford Falcon. Bawdon inherited the lead in the concluding stages on a tricky slick race surface, dried by a bitterly cold wind. Bawdon drove extremely well all night to defeat Dean Shore and Aylett, with Ric Musarra and Keith Higgs the only other drivers to finish. The heat racing was outstanding and spectacular, with three wide racing providing some great racing. Giancola won two of the heats, while Bawdon, Aylett, Lyall and Dean Shore won a heat each. The night will also be remembered for Keith Higgs' drive in heat six. Numerous occasions the car launched off the ground while in the lead, with the suspension giving in with a lap to go. Bert Vosbergen had more problems with the Pantera only lasting four laps in the first heat, before retiring the car for the rest of the program. The Super Sedans now have three weeks to regroup before the State Title at the Perth Motorplex on 23 & 24 November 2007.
